Sawan & mela guide

Many journeys. One devotion.

A practical companion for Sawan, Kanwariya journeys, and Maha Shivaratri at Jharkhand Dham.

The spirit of Sawan

The holy month of Shravan brings a powerful rhythm of worship to the dham. Kanwariyas journey with sacred water, families gather for prayers, and Mondays can be especially busy. Maha Shivaratri is another major occasion for worship and the annual fair.

Festival dates follow the Hindu calendar. Confirm the local observance, worship arrangements, and access hours before booking your journey.

The Dharanarthi tradition

Dharanarthis undertake a sustained period of devotion, often following a phalahar practice, traditionally a fruit-based diet. The precise observance and duration are guided by local religious customs.

Speak with a local priest about the practice. If fasting or prolonged stays may affect your health, seek individual medical advice before taking part.

Queues, parking & arrival

  • Use designated entry routes and follow police, volunteers, and temple staff.
  • Expect road diversions and parking outside the immediate temple area during peak gatherings.
  • Keep children and older companions close. Agree on a meeting point before joining a queue.
  • Keep emergency lanes clear and avoid stopping to photograph in moving crowds.
  • Travel light and confirm restrictions on bags and offerings on arrival.

Water, medical support & aid camps

Ask the district administration or on-site help desk for the locations of drinking-water points, medical aid, toilets, and lost-person assistance. Seasonal camps and their operating hours vary; availability should be confirmed locally.

If anyone feels unwell, leave the crowded area with assistance and approach a marked medical aid point promptly.

When should I arrive?

Allow extra time on Sawan Mondays and Maha Shivaratri. Confirm opening times and road access locally; this guide does not publish unverified darshan schedules.

Can I book darshan through this website?

No booking service is provided here. Ask the temple’s on-site administration about current arrangements.
